Whole Wheat Applesauce Brownies
1/2 cup butter 1/2 tsp. baking powder2 oz unsweetened chocolate 1/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 cup sugar 1/4 tsp. salt
2 eggs, beaten Topping:
3/4 cup applesauce 2 Tbsp. sugar
1 1/4 tsp. vanilla 1/4 cup chopped nuts
1 cup ground whole wheat flour 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
Preheat oven to 350*. Melt the butter and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat. Add the sugar, eggs, applesauce and vanilla and beat well. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt. Add these dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture and blend only enough to combine them. Pour the batter into a greased, 8-inch square baking pan. Mix the three topping ingredients and sprinkle over batter. Bake for 30-35 minutes. Cool brownies before cutting.
