An interview of Danette Ellis about the job of a ballet teacher.

A Ballerina's Interview

Q: When did you first get interested in ballet?

A: I started dancing when I was 6 years old. I took from McConnell Twins. I took ballet, tap, jazz, and gymnastics. My favorite was ballet though as I kept dancing all my duets and trios were ballet. I watched ballerinas on T.V. Too and I loved it and wanted to be one.

Q: What did you do to get a job teaching ballet?

A: I trained twelve years in dance and after I had a girl (many years later) I asked Tonya Speed if she needed help and she did. Then a mom asked for a Praise Dance class and Tonya asked me to teach it. I love it! Now I have three classes.

Q: Why did you choose ballet?

A: Ballet is graceful and beautiful and worthy for praise dancers.

Q: What is a typical day like?

A: I home school and do chores at home and teach 2 or 3 classes 3 days a week usually. Right now I teach 8 classes a week.

Q: What do you suggest I do as I prepare for a career in dance?

A: Train hard and take even more ballet and point, maybe at Montgomery Ballet another day a week. You have a natural gift for ballet, a pretty arch and the heart for it.
